UKUWA is currently interviewing energized students to join our debate team. Participants will be featured on a UKUWA YouTube show that will be seen around the world. Debate team instruction classes are free and starting soon.
Merriam-Webster calls debate a "regulated discussion of a proposition between two matched sides." We use debate to explore many of the issues facing the world and formulate best possible solutions to current and future global problems.
However, valuable insight into the world around you is not the only benefit you will gain by joining the UKUWA debate team. Your critical thinking skills will improve and you will begin to react quickly and intelligently during intellectual discourse. With practice, you will become an excellent public speaker. You will be able to confidently assert yourself in front of your peers. You will learn how to argue and persuade, and you will master body language.
Debate also creates writers. The writing tools you acquire as you learn how to effectively support your debate positions will help you finish school and succeed in the world beyond the classroom and lecture hall. Moreover, studies prove that debate team members score higher on tests like the ACT, SAT, and GRE. Additionally, college admissions officers consider debate team members well prepared for success and regularly show preference to those applicants.
Ditto for law and medical schools.
Socially, debate creates lasting friendships amongst peers who share similar interests. Professionally, debaters gain valuable business acumen. You will learn how to effectively use strategy and see every possible angle. In short, you will become a business leader.
Finally, debate will help you improve your local community. Debaters are well versed on current social issues, law, civil rights, and government.
